This chapter contains the data found by prominent studies in the world. The sources range from newspapers and journals to government data to some popular online sites.
India:
India was ranked No.1 among the top twenty countries for road crashes with crash severity of 31.4, followed by China (29.64), before the Covid outbreak. A total of 4,03,116 road accident cases were reported in 2021 alone, according to data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). Every year, approximately 1.5 lakh people die in India due to road accidents, which translates, on an average, into 18 deaths every hour. In 2022, there were 1,55,622 deaths in the country due to road accidents.
